The person who died was a contractor working at the plant, according to a statement from James Wainscott, chairman, president and CEO of AK Steel. His identity has not been released.

The steelmaker is based in West Chester, Ohio. A person answering the phone after hours said no one was available to comment.

Wainscott said in the statement that the company was “saddened” by the death and would investigate, The Independent in Ashland reported.
