Charlie’s is example of hard work

To stay in business for nearly 50 years, you have to be able to roll with the punches. So it is a good thing that Mike and Charlie Haas sell tires.

The brothers are the owners of Charlie’s Tire Sales, a staple in downtown Ironton for more than four decades in its current location on Second Street.

But progress often necessitates change.

The much-anticipated replacement of the Ironton-Russell Bridge over the next four years or so means that Charlie’s needed a new place to call home.

The longtime business owners were committed to the city and found a way to push this necessity in a positive direction. They are set to begin moving to the former Integrity Jeep building on Third Street, a change that will offer more visibility, more space and the opportunity for more changes in the future.

Operating a small business is difficult under the best of circumstances. Throw in recessions, community migration, massive industry layoffs and a changing economy, and some people would have just packed it in.

But not the Haas family.

They should be commended for their perseverance and dedication. Their longevity speaks to their reputation.

That certainly won’t change, no matter where they are located.
