SOUTH POINT — In the immortal words of an old show business saying, “The show must go on.”
The Chesapeake, Proctorville, Rome Lions Club is not letting outside circumstances interrupt its annual track and field event.
It will be held Saturday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m. at South Point High School. Usually held on the first Friday of April at Chesapeake High School, this year, safety problems at the Chesapeake track forced the change in venue and date.
The 44th annual competition, postponed from its original date of April 8 will bring together nine area high schools including Chesapeake, Spring Valley, River Valley, Wayne, Lincoln County, Ironton, South Point, Fairland and Rock Hill.
The boys and girls event always attracts a big crowd and tough competition. This year, as usual, proceeds from the event will help provide eye glasses and eye exams for those people in the Lawrence County area who can’t afford to pay. Also in the Lions Club tradition, several door prizes will be handed out.
Major sponsors for the track meet are McDonalds and Collins Career Center.
