CHESAPEAKE — Just one look at the score told how this game was played.
Amber Bias drove in the winning run in the 11th inning and Sashe Burcham out-dueled Sarah Rice as the Fairland Lady Dragons edged the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 2-1 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“Both pitchers did a nice job,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice. “Sarah (Rice) gave us a chance, we just couldn’t capitalize. But that’s a tribute to Burcham.
“We did some good things today. Defensively we played well. We’re getting better.”
Burcham gave up eight hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter to get the win. Sarah Rice allowed nine hits, struck out 10 and walked seven.
Chesapeake (0-5, 0-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Myky Harmon led off with a home run.
Fairland came back to tie the game in the fourth inning.
Chloe Stanley singled to start the inning, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a one-out single by Kerie Napier.
In the 11th inning, Chelsey Stanley drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Rice struck out the next two batters but Bias hit an 0-1 pitch for a double to score Stanley.
Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth Tuesday in a non-league. Fairland will host South Point Wednesday in a league game.
