COAL GROVE — The pitching and defense continued, but this time the hitting began to catch up.
Karlie Collins pitched a two-hitter and the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers combined eight hits with 10 walks to beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 13-2 Monday in six innings.
“Our defense is really doing well. I am very pleased with their efforts,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “We hit the ball a little better tonight but we still need to be much more aggressive at the plate.”
Collins struck out 13 and walked six as she picked up the win.
Andi Kratzenberg was 2-2 and Saige Fields 2-3 to lead the 13-hit attack. Nikki Elswick, Laken White and Emily Davis all doubled.
Ironton plays at Fairview, Ky., Thursday.
