Redwomen set up OVC showdown

The Rock Hill Redwomen blanked the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 10-0 in five innings Wednesday to set up a showdown for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference Thursday with the South Point Lady Pointers.

“It was a good win. If we didn’t win this game then tomorrow wouldn’t mean as much,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper.

Rock Hill (7-2, 5-0) and South Point (10-1, 4-0) play at 7:30 p.m. at Rock Hill.

Sami Nixon pitched a four-hitter for the win. She struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Rock Hill took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Morgan Damron walked and Chelsea Harper hit an inside-the-park home run. Courtney Duncan and Morgan Schug each tripled and scored on a wild pitch for the other runs.

Damron walked, went to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on Harper’s ground out in the second inning.

The Redwomen scored five runs in the fifth to end the game.

Brooke Hanshaw reached on a fielder’s choice and Schug had an RBI single. Schug moved up on an error and Lindy Simpson had an RBI single.

Brooke Eastham singled, Nicole Stamper walked and Kaelynn Ellis singled in a run. Damron walked and Harper singled in the final run.

Harper went 2-4 and Schug 2-3.
