HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — This year’s Friends of Coal Bowl football game will be played on a Sunday, and fans can watch it on national television.
The Marshall-West Virginia matchup was originally set for Sept. 3 in Morgantown. Reports say that officials moved the game to Sunday, Sept. 4, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. ESPN will televise the game.
Sept. 4 falls on the three-day Labor Day weekend, and a week before the NFL season’s scheduled start. It’s the third time in five seasons the game attracted a national TV slot. The 2007 and 2010 games in Huntington were on ESPN2 and ESPN, respectively.
WVU leads the series, 10-0.
