PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen are doing it all, and so far it’s all too much for their opponents.
The Redmen played well in all phases of the game on Thursday as they remained unbeaten with Ohio Valley Conference wins over the Chesapeake Panthers and Coal Grove Hornets.
Rock Hill spanked out 14 hits to back the six-hit pitching of Jared Bruce as the Redmen beat the Panthers 15-1 in five innings in the first of two games on Thursday.
“We did everything you’re supposed to do to win a game. We hit the ball, Jared threw a good ball game and we played well defensively,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
Rock Hill is now 9-0 overall and leads the OVC at 6-0.
The Redmen got a run in the first when Shane Russell singled, stole second and third, and scored on a hit by Drew Kidd who went 3-4 for the game with six RBI.
A six-run second inning opened up a 7-0 lead.
Matt Jenkins and Bruce singled and Russell was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Kidd doubled to empty the bases.
Jonathan Schob walked, Cody Massie hit into a fielder’s choice, Chris Donohue singled in a run, Devin Darby was hit by a pitch and Matt Jenkins doubled in two runs.
Rock Hill put the game away with a nine-run fourth inning that featured two walks, a two-run double by Ryan Depriest, and hits by Kidd, Schob, Massie, Donohue and Darby.
In the second game, the Redmen had five extra base hits including two by Massie in a 9-2 league win over the Hornets.
Massie went 2-4 with a double and a home run as he knocked in five runs.
The game was just 4-1 until the Redmen scored five times in the sixth inning.
“We left too many people on base. We just didn’t put them away early,” said Litteral.
Russell singled, Kidd walked and Massie smacked a three-run homer in the first inning for a 3-0 lead.
Coal Grove got a run back in the second on a double by Conor Markins and a single by Cory Bryant.
The Redmen got that run back in the third when Kidd walked and Schob and Donohue singled.
In the sixth, Depriest singled, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.
Russell and Kidd walked, Schob doubled in a run, Massie doubled in two more and Donohue doubled in the final run.
Kidd walked four times.
Rock Hill plays at Fairland Monday in a key league game.
