Police ask for help in woman’s disappearance

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police are asking the public for help in the disappearance of an eastern Kentucky woman.

Police say Janet Jolene Stephens-Brown, who was 25 when she disappeared in October 2009, was last seen near a Junior’s Food Mart in Ashland.

A statement from police says an investigation revealed she did not have ties to anyone outside the area and all her personal belongings were left at her residence in Ashland.

Ironton mayor files petition for re-election

IRONTON — Ironton Mayor Rich Blankenship has made official his intentions to run for re-election by filing his petition to run in the November race.

Blankenship filed the petition Friday for the Nov. 8 election.

The mayor is the first of three potential candidates to file his petition. Ironton City Council members Beth Rist and Bob Cleary have also expressed an interest in the role by picking up a petition.

Local dental society to offer free screenings

SOUTH POINT — The Southern Ohio Dental Society will offer free oral cancer screenings Monday to Friday.

This is in recognition of Oral Cancer Awareness Month. An estimated 37,000 people each year are diagnosed with the disease. It is recommended that all adults be screened for oral cancer.

A screening may be arranged by appointment by calling any area dentist, including Hal Jeter at 377-2020, Teresa Martin at 456-1100, Robert Nelson at 353-1234, Robert Barnett at 532-5302, or Jerry Mayer at 532-4613.

Greenbo Lake offers boat rental special

GREENUP, Ky. — Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is offering a special boat rental deal to guests during the weekend of April 29-30 — Camper Appreciation Weekend.

Registered campers and lodge guests can rent a boat on Friday and get a free boat on Saturday. This offer is good on a first come, first served basis.
