Heavy winds and the quick downpours Saturday morning sent streams out of their banks.
By mid-morning Saturday, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported that State Route 94 at Pedro and State Route 141 at Arabia and Wilgus were closed due to flooding. Also State Route 139 at the Jackson-Scioto County line, the State Route 73/104 ramp at U.S. 52 and State Route 239 in Scioto County were also closed.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office also reported that County Road 4 at the 7.5 and 9-mile markers was closed.
Rains earlier this week had shut down Hog Run Road and Lawrence Street, which remained closed through the weekend.
As of Saturday afternoon County Engineer Doug Cade said there were no reports of landslides due to flash flooding. However, he said they were several roads in the county that were closed
“County Road 650 is closed. In fact they just put up the signs,” Cade said. “County Road 27 and County Road 4. Some of our equipment was close to getting in the water. We have not received any specific calls. Normally, we get calls through the sheriff’s office. That is how we get contacted.”
The county remained under a flash flood watch through 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service out of Charleston, W.Va.
The chance of thunderstorms and showers continued through Easter.
