Nora Murphy

Nora E. Murphy, 87, of Ironton, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Greenup County, Ky., native was born Oct. 1, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Anna McClaskey Easterling. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore F. Murphy, who died July 15, 2003.

Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and attended the Ironton City Mission. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John D. Reed; a great grandson, Brent Reed; six brothers, James Easterling, Charles Easterling, Clarence Easterling, Everett Easterling, Frank Easterling and Robert Lee Easterling; and three sisters, Cora Compton, Goldie Bailey and Lucy Easterling.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Virginia Reed, Janet James and Reba and James Houston, all of Ironton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ted Murphy, Dennis and Norma Murphy and Frank and Christi Murphy, all of Ironton; a sister, Ethel Martin of Ironton; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ironton City Mission with Rev. James Cremeans and Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Ted Murphy, Frank Murphy, Dave Reed, Bill James, D.J. Murphy, Tiffany Reed, Jim Houston, and Tim Houston. Donations may be made to the Ironton City Mission 710 N.
