Man charged with theft following car thefts

IRONTON — The Ironton Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a series of car break-ins that left several residents without car batteries.

Travis Pennington, 22, of 1310 N. Third St., Ironton, was arrested Tuesday and charged with five counts of theft, drug possession and tampering with evidence.

Batteries were stolen from four cars on Karin and Charlotte streets in north Ironton Monday night, IPD Chief Jim Carey said. Sunday evening, batteries were stolen from three vehicles in the 1500 block of South Third Street.

“People are reminded one to not keep things in their vehicles and two to lock their vehicles,” Carey said. “It seems like they’re getting into unlocked vehicles, popping the hoods and attaining batteries.”

Police recovered six batteries and some tools, Carey said.

Carey added that there might be more arrests made in connection with the break-ins.
