WELLSTON — Like bananas, the Rock Hill Redwomen did their scoring in bunches.

And like the banana peel, pitcher Sami Nixon kept slipping pitches past the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets’ hitters.

Rock Hill scored all its runs in the third and fourth innings to back the five-hit pitching of Nixon as they beat Wellston 7-1 on Wednesday.

Nixon struck out six and walked just one in going the distance. Cheslea Harper and Dani Crabtree sparked the offense as Harper went 4-4 and Crabtree belted a home run.

Morgan Damron reached on an error to start a four-run third. Harper and Brooke Hanshaw singled for a run and Crabtree cleared the bases with her three-run homer.

With two outs in the fourth, Damron got a base hit and BreeAnna Depriest reached on a missed third strike. Harper singled home two runs and then came around to score the final run on Hanshaw’s base hit.

Wellston got its only run in the fifth inning on a single by Kaitlin Osborne and Jessica Fisher’s two-out double.

Hanshaw was 2-3 and Crabtree 2-4 as the Redwomen banged out nine hits.

Rock Hill hosts Fairland at 5 p.m. Friday in the Division III sectional finals.
