Hospice to host tennis tournament

ASHLAND, Ky. — The 9th Annual Community Hospice Swing into Summer Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12 at the Ashland Tennis Center.

Registrations will be accepted until Wednesday, June 8 at noon.

There are several men’s, women’s and mixed divisions, including a special juniors section for boys and girls. Entry fees are $20 per event per player with a three event limit.

All registrants will receive a free T-shirt and awards will be presented to the winners and finalists in each event.

A players cookout, hosted by MTS, is scheduled for Saturday at 12 noon at the Tennis Center.

All matches will be played at the Ashland Tennis Center. Friday matches will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matches begin at 8 a.m.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the programs and services of Community Hospice.

Kitts Hill resident earns degree

NATCHITOCHES, LA. – Northwestern State University of Louisiana awarded degrees to 908 students at its Spring Commencement Exercises.

The ceremonies were the largest Spring Commencement in

Northwestern’s 127-year history. Northwestern had 2,043 graduates during the 2010-11 academic year, the largest number in Northwestern State history.

One local graduate was Marta Brown of Kitt’s Hill, bachelor of science.
