Eddy Test has lasting impact on students

Anyone who is looking to gauge the success and impact of the Child Welfare Club’s Eddy Test should simply listen to those who have taken it.
Considering the civic organization has administered the achievement test for five decades, there are plenty to choose from. The club hosted its annual banquet last week recognizing the top scorers from the sixth-grades at the Ironton public and Catholic schools.
Only the best of the best get to take it in the first place, so these are truly elite students.
To mark the milestone year, the club brought back many of its first test-takers from 1961.
Even after all these years many of those individuals still proudly talked about passing the test with high marks and the trophy that comes with the achievement.
That pride shows the legacy of this project and how important it is to our schools and our community.
We applaud the Child Welfare Club for this continuing effort and all that it does to promote education and development of area youth. For their efforts, this long-standing civic group is showcased in this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” spotlight.
When students are actually excited about taking another test, you know it has to be something truly special.
The Eddy Test is exactly that.
