It is not too late to join the battle to overcome a powerful disease that has impacted the lives of nearly everyone.

The Lawrence County Relay for Life event to raise money in the fight against cancer is set for Friday at the Chesapeake High School football field and track. This annual event isn’t just an eastern Lawrence County offering. It isn’t just a school initiative. The Relay is a chance for the community to come together to honor cancer survivors and raise money to battle the disease.

Every penny raised from the walking sponsorships and other fundraising efforts goes to the American Cancer Society and its research programs.

The Symmes Valley schools already hosted its event and raised nearly $25,000. Hopefully, the countywide relay will help break the $100,000 mark.

The Relay begins at 6 p.m. Friday with the survivors’ dinner open to all survivors and their guests at the Chesapeake Middle School. Reservations can be made by calling (740) 532-1603. Then the Relay will begin with the survivors’ walk being the first lap on the track.

For those who have never been, this is truly a powerful moment that showcases the best of the human spirit.

There is still time for citizens to join in this cause by sponsoring walkers, making a donation or attending the event just to show support.

Cancer has touched all of us. And it will take all of us working together to one day beat this disease.
