Coleman Collins

PEDRO — Coleman Collins, 93 of Pedro, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice.

He was born June 1, 1918, in Whalen Ky. He was the son of the late EP and Della Mae Conley Collins. He was married to Wanda L. Back Collins for 36 years. He was preceded in death by one brother, Oakley C. Collins and four sisters, Carmonella C. Pinkstone, Ora Lee C. Croy, Louise C. Carey and Irma C, Compton. He was co-owner and operator of Collins Mining and the Collins Family Farm. He graduated from Pedro High School and attended Marshall University.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club, the NRA, Wild Life Forever and Lawrence County Republican Club. He was a Kentucky colonel and an avid hunter. He was a WWII veteran. He is survived by two daughters, and sons-in-law Carolyn Collins Lonardo and Vito of Waverly and Deborah L. Collins Haynes and Greg of Ironton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gregory K. and Shana Dean Collins of Ironton and Steven C. Collins, of Ironton; one sister, Rita Mae C. Justice of Florida.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Rob Cherry, Sean Pierce, Tyler Collins, Alisha Pierce, and Randalyn C. Minyard; and five great grandchildren, Robbie Cherry, Brad Pierce, Hannah Cherry, Brea Pierce and Karlee Pierce. He is survived by three special friends, Tom and Jesse Stone and Jim McGuire. Funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Sean D. Pierce officiating and Brad Pierce as soloist. Burial will be in Collins Cemetery in Buckhorn. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
