Madalyn G. McMackin Roberts

Madalyn G. McMackin Roberts, 82, of Ironton, died Sunday June 19, 2011, at Jo-Lin Health Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1929, to the late Charles and Luella Sturgill McMackin. She was the wife of Edward Roberts whom she married Jan. 29, 1951, who survives.

Madalyn graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1946 as valedictorian of her class and registered nurses training in 1949. She was employed at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis Tenn., Newborn and Cherry Point, N.C., Lawrence County General Hospital, King’s Daughters Hospital and Best Care Health Center. She was the operating room supervisor at both Lawrence County General and King’s Daughters Hospital and the assistant director of nursing at Best Care.

Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Connie and Rock Keaton, Rose Lewis, and Joanne Roberts; all of Ironton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Laurie Roberts and Tommy Jonna Roberts; all of Ironton; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Wise of Cincinnati.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be held at Woodland Cemetery on Thursday at 12 p.m. with Eric Barnes officiating. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
