Family Fun event shines because club

Every year a small summer festival aptly named Fun Days lives up to that moniker thanks in no small part to a small citizens group that gets big results.
Each summer the Village of Coal Grove and the Coal Grove Betterment Club put the three-day Family Fun Days together.
Hosted at Paul Porter Park in the village, the event offers a wide variety of family-friendly entertainment and showcases some of the region’s best musical talent.
The village does its part but the club has been successful, in part, because of a dedicated core of volunteers and because of tremendous community support.
Fun Days organizers should be commended for their perseverance and dedication to this worthwhile cause.
Hundreds of people will visit the park this year to enjoy the festivities that begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The celebration will culminate with a fireworks show that rivals those of much larger communities.
For their commitment and dedication to this project, the Coal Grove Betterment Club is recognized with this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” spotlight.
It is easy to talk about the need for more family entertainment, it is another matter entirely to make it happen, year after year.
