REEDSVILLE, Penn. — John A. Waddell, 83, of 55 Overhill Road, Reedsville, died at 9 a.m., Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home.

Born on Oct. 25, 1927, in Ironton, he was the son of the late Herbert A. Waddell and Emeline R. (Dunnington) Waddell.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. “Patti” (Wilson) Waddell, who lives in the home she and John shared.

Also surviving are his four children, John H. Waddell, and wife Judy, of Belleville, Kathy Macchiaverna, and husband Michael, of Reedsville, Dennis E. Waddell, and wife Elizabeth “Betsy”, of Muncy and Mark J. Waddell, and wife Kimberly, of Reedsville; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Waddell, Daniel Waddell and wife Amanda, Lucas Waddell, Michael Macchiaverna, with wife Amy and daughter Emma Kate, Ann Getz, with husband Jared and son Gabriel, Traci Rocco and husband Eric, Patrick Macchiaverna, Amy Macchiaverna and Luke, John, Ted, Jordan, Taylor and Zane Waddell.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Waddell.

John retired in October of 1991 from The Axe Factory. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lewistown, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher.

He was one of the founders of the Mifflin County Youth Park and served on its board of directors. He also served on the board of directors for the Juniata Valley Bank, the Stone Mountain Village in Belleville, and for Elder Community Services.

In addition to the above, he also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Lewistown, with the Rev. Paul Carter officiating. Burial will be private, and at the convenience of the family at Church Hill Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
