Marshall to appeal medical school probation proposal
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Marshall University officials plan to travel to Chicago in the fall to appeal an accrediting body’s recommendation that the medical school be placed on probation.
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education listed 10 areas of partial or substantial noncompliance with accreditation standards in a June 15 letter it sent to Marshall President Stephen Kopp.
The Herald-Dispatch reports that Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine interim dean Robert Nerhood discussed the committee’s recommendation Tuesday during a meeting of Marshall’s Board of Governors.
Nerhood said the recommendation is due to a misunderstanding of information that the school provided to the committee. He said Marshall officials will appeal the recommendation at the committee’s Oct. 2 meeting in Chicago.

SOUTH POINT — A Charity garage sale for MDA will be Saturday at 6944 County Rd 1 Old 52 (1/2 mile toward South Point behind Lowes) from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will raise funds for the MDA executive lock-up on Aug. 16 at the Cabell County Jail.
