Franklin Call

Franklin Call, Jr. 64, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 14, 1947, the son of the late Frank and Thelnize Lewis Call. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Emma Shope Call, whom he married Jan. 2, 1968.

Mr. Call was a 1965 graduate of Ironton High School and was a former sanitation driver for the City of Ironton. He was in the 4-H Clubs in Scioto and Lawrence counties for 30 years. He was on the Boyd County Fair Board and also on the Lawrence County Fair Board for 15 years. He was an active member of the Coal Grove Betterment Club and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Harper.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Benny Call of Ironton; a sister, Helen Ravencraft of Ironton; a brother-in-law, Walling Harper of Ironton; and two nieces, Morgan Harper and Madison Harper, both of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Walling Harper, Keith Harper, Scott Harper, Carl Large, Emerson Bruce, and Tommy Norris with an honorary pallbearer, Benny Call.
