Huntington YMCA offers SilverSneakers fitness program
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Y wants to share one of its best-kept secrets for older adults — the SilverSneakers Fitness Program.
SilverSneakers is a nationwide program that encourages older adults to take control of their health by engaging in physical activity and social events. Focus areas include building muscular strength, improving joint mobility and increasing cardiovascular endurance, leading to improved health and greater independence.
“In addition to all of the physical benefits, participating in SilverSneakers is a great way to create and strengthen friendships and increase mental sharpness,” said Brian Byrd, Branch Director of Phil Cline Family YMCA.
SilverSneakers is free for eligible adults 65 and over, disabled and/or on Medicare with supplemental insurance of Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Highmark, Mountain State Blue Cross, or if you live in Ohio, AARP.
Participants in the Huntington Y’s SilverSneakers Fitness Program receive a full membership to the Phil Cline YMCA, which includes access to a variety of cardio machines, an indoor walking track, a weight room, a game room, and three gymnasiums.
There are also exclusive exercise classes offered to SilverSneakers participants, including Cardio, Muscular Strength and Range Movement. The membership also includes access to Y Group Fitness Classes like Weighted Workout, Yoga and Zumba. Participants can also take advantage of the Y’s qualified and trained Fitness Instructors.
