St. Joseph golf scramble scheduled for Sept. 17
The St. Joseph boosters’ annual golf scramble will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Diamond Links Golf Course.
Fee is $50 each. Prices will be awarded and lunch is provided. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Gems’ fastpitch softball tryouts scheduled
The K.C. Diamond Gems girls’ fastpitch traveling softball team will conduct tryouts for various age groups.
Tryous will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Boyd County High School softball field for 10, 11 and 12 and under.
Girls 13 through 18 and under will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Catlettsburg-Boyd Optimist Fields.

Bennett Lake junior tennis tournament set
The 11th annual Bennett Lake Memorial Scholarship Tennis Tournament will be held Sept. 16-18 at the Ashland (Ky.) Tennis Center.
The touranment is a level 4 Kentucky tournament sanctioned by the USTA. Players can earn points toward state and sectional ranking by playing in this event.
Singles and doubles are offered for boys and girls ages 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. All 10-and-under will use new 10U tournament format.
Entry fee is $43.50 for one singles and one doubles event. A T-shirt will also be given to each participant.

OHSAA basketball
officials’ class planned
The Ironton Chapter of Basketball Officials in conjunction with the Ohio High School Athletic Association will conduct an officiating class beginning on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Chesapeake Middle School.
Fee is $125 and covers all costs and testing except for the students OHSAA approved uniform.

Classes will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturdays through November when testing will be completed.
The class consists of rule interpretation, mechanics and live scrimmages scheduled at area high schools.
