Roberta Williams

Roberta Williams, 93, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at her residence.

The Ironton native was born Jan. 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Julia Kilgore Welch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, District Elder J.J. Williams.

Mrs. Williams was a 1936 graduate of Ironton High School and attended Marshall University. She was a former certified tailor for Ernest D. Pasquale in Huntington, W.Va. She was a member of Christ Temple for over 35 years, where she always worked at the church camp. She was also a member of the Southside Homemakers, a volunteer for March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Welch and a sister, Golda Fleming.

She is survived by a sister, Lillian Brant of Ironton; a sister, Jacquelyn Samuels of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Bishop Bruce P. Rogers of Ironton; special friends, Margaret and Danny Curry of Huntington, W.Va., Frances and Garland Travis of Ironton, and Velma Davis of Memphis, Tenn. Although she never had children of her own, she is survived by many loving nieces, one nephew and numerous “children of the heart”. She was an inspiration and role model for them all, exuding her quiet grace and positive dignity. A conscientious, diligent and industrious woman, she stood in as a parent for one of her nieces who lived in the area attending PTA meetings and other school related events regularly. She also spent several summers teaching that same niece her tailoring craft, learned at the hands of an Italian tailor and perfected over decades of serving as tailor and dressmaker to the town’s elite.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South Sixth Street, Ironton, Ohio with Pastor Chuck Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Minnie Tackett

Minnie B. Tackett, 90, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ashland, Ky., native was born Oct. 15, 1920, the daughter of the late Arvel Alexander and Laura Colegrove Edmond. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Tackett.

Mrs. Tackett was a graduate of Ashland Senior High School and a homemaker. She also was a former bookkeeper for the Boyd County Auditors Office and made shells for the U.S. Navy during WWII for the Clayton Lambert Company.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Edmond Estes, Mary Louise Edmond, and Betty Jean Edmond; four brothers, John Curtis Edmond, Arvel Edmond, Jr., Leonard Edmond, and William Homer Edmond.

She is survived by a son, Alan Lee and Sheila Tackett of Hanging Rock; a grandson, Dale A. Tackett of Ironton; a granddaughter, Sara Rose Tackett of Ironton; a great granddaughter, Marlaina J. Wilds of Ironton; three nephews, Donald Hammond, Gary Edmond both of Ashland and Homer Edmond Jr. of Georgia and a good neighbor, Dollye Harberger of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Wallace and Rev. Willard Metz officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Carl Stephens

GRAYSON, Ky. — Carl Douglas Stephens, 80 of Grayson, KY, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was the husband of Alma Lou Haney Stephens, who survives. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sparks Funeral Home with Tommy Riffe and Jimmy Stephens, officiating. Burial will follow in the Grayson Memorial Park with military honors. Yvonne Berry

WESTWOOD, Ky. — Helen Yvonne Hunt Berry, 50, of Westwood, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Preston Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Lillie Bloom

RACELAND, Ky. — Lillie Mae Little-Bloom, 69, of Raceland, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She was the wife of Frank Bloom, who survives. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Carman Funeral Home with Pastor Johnsey Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation will be on 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
