A famous founding father, author, politician and inventor will be brought back to life at Ohio University Southern.

On Friday, a popular Ben Franklin interpreter, Steve Nousen, is set to perform his two-act, one-man show, “Ben Speaks,” about how the founders worked on the Constitution and some of the trials and challenges they faced in making the document.

Dr. Dave Lucas, associate professor of communication studies, helped to organize Nousen’s visit for the university’s recognition of Constitution Day.

“The Constitution of the United States should be studied by every American,” Lucas said “I am happy to participate with Ohio University in recognizing the significance and power of this framing document of our country. I stood in the National Archives in Washington D.C. this summer and I marveled that such a document could posses such lasting power. We want to celebrate the Constitution with our students, campus family and the community.”

Nousen has been lecturing as Franklin for about 10 years and considers himself a life-long student of American History.

“I love to play Franklin because he was such a good person,” Nousen said. “For all the stories about Franklin being a person of loose morals, I find him to be an extraordinarily honest and caring human being.”

The event will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Rotunda at OUS. Public, students and all campus family are invited to attend.

“Ben Speaks’ is my attempt to bring this amazing life into perspective in ways Americans of all ages can appreciate,” Nousen said.
