FRANKLIN FURNACE — Hayden Welch found out that eight was more than enough.

Welch scored eight touchdowns including two on kickoff returns and one on a punt return as the Fairfield Christian Knights beat the Green Bobcats 59-18 on Friday.

Welch also caught 10 passes for 295 yards and kicked a 40-yard field goal in the win.

Quarterback Luke Johnson was 12 of 18 passing for 339 yards and four touchdowns, all to Welch.

The Knights took a 24-0 halftime lead and scored on the first series of the second half as Johnson hit Welch on a 67-yard pass play.

Sam Fratturo had a 3-yard scoring run and the lead was 38-0.

Green (2-2) answered with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Cody Bruce to Kyle Frazier, but Welch ran back the kickoff 69 yards and it was 45-6.

Welch caught a 69-yard TD pass just before the end of the quarter and it was 52-6.

Rob Applegate ran 25 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and it was 52-12. But Welch returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards and the lead was 59-12.

The Bobcats refused to quit and came back to score on a 29-yard jaunt by Kyle Frazier.

The Knights racked up 581 total yards including 242 on the ground. Fratturo had 144 yards on 13 carries.

Green piled up 363 yards with 288 coming on the ground. Applegate ran 18 times for 109 yards.
