Dragons win Galion meet

GALION — The Fairland Dragons decided to attend the Galion Cross Country Festival and decided to celebrate in the best way they knew how.

The Dragons beat the No. 2 and No. 5 ranked teams in the latest Ohio cross country coaches’ poll as they won the Division II team championship on Saturday.

Fairland had 90 points to finish atop the 27-team field and ahead of runner-up Chillicothe Unioto that had 99 points.

Granville was third with 104 followed by Tallmadge with 120 and Lexington had 156.

Unioto’s Adrian Ross had the overall individual winning time of 15:23.9 but the Dragons placed three runners among the top seven.

Tanner Mattie was fourth with a 16:06.9 clocking while Logan Rowe (16:10.1) and Raine Wireman (16:20.5) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Ryan Stewart was No. 33 for the Dragons with a 17:05.1 time and Chad McComas rounded out the team scoring by finishing No. 40 with a 17:17.5 time.

Dylan Hannon (18:20.8) was No. 94 and Zack Fanning (18:23.9) was No. 99 for the Dragons.
