Ruth Hammond (Granny) Butler

COAL GROVE — Ruth Hammond (Granny) Butler, 86, of Coal Grove, passed Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Kitts Hill native was born Dec. 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Nick and Mattie Duty Hammond.
Ruth was a graduate of Kitts Hill High School and of the Baptist faith. She retired from Wilson’s Sporting Goods and was a member of the USBC Senior Bowling League and enjoyed bowling until just a few months ago.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie (Pidy) Butler in 2005; sister and brother- in-law, Dorothy and Glen Townsend; and brothers, Gerald, George Oscar and Donald Hammond
She is survived by daughter, Dottie Bennett; grandchildren, Tim (Carol) Kelly, Dee (Mark) McKenzie and Tami (Greg) Scythes; great grandchildren, Josh and Brad Kelly, Logan, Lakyn and Talyn McKenzie, Summer and Landon Wheatley, Brooklyn and Aspen Scythes; sister and brother- in-law, Iva and Ray Bentley; brother, Pat Hammond; a lifelong friend, Wanda Martin;
and numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Elder Glenn Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery.
