Martha Christian

 

Martha Pearl Christian, 89, of County Road 45, Ironton, went home to Jesus Thursday, Nov.10, 2011. Martha had been a longtime resident of Ironton and a member of Royersville Missionary Baptist Church.

Martha was born Oct. 20, 1923,to parents George and Virgie McCormick. She was married to Walter A. Christian in June 1943 and from that union had nine children, 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Belva Johnson and Zona Cade; her brothers, Bill, George and John McCormick; her husband, Walter Sr. and two daughters, Genevieve and Sharon.

Surviving to celebrate her life are three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter (Wally) and Leigh Christian, Woody and Barbara Christian and Bradley Christian; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bill Clark, Donna Brumfield, Patti and Alan King, Dee and Tim Stewart; a sister, Mary Cremeans; a brother, Charlie (Jim) McCormick and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A special thank you is extended to Mom’s dear friend and caregiver, Donna Wicker.

Visitation will be 6 – 9 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home. The Rev. Billy Markins will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. James Cremeans and Rev. Mike Long. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Royersville Missionary Baptist Church with interment to follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
