It is easy for individuals to identify the reasons they should be thankful, but we must not forget that our community as a whole also has many reasons to celebrate this Thanksgiving.

Lawrence County and the Tri-State have so much going right, many positive things that we often take for granted.

Here are just a few reasons to be thankful:

> For the quality of life that allows us a sort of big-city access with still a small town feel.

>For the Ohio River, our highway system and local airports that connect us with the world.

> For our economic development officials who are working hard to move our area forward. It is often a thankless and painfully slow job but it is vital to our communities to grow.

> For our public service workers — including police, fire and emergency medical services — who help keep us safe and save lives.

>For our natural resources in the beauty is found here in the Wayne National Forest and Lake Vesuvius recreation area. We often overlook how important this is and how those living in large cities do not have access to nature.

>For the fact that the economic downturn has not hit our region as hard as it has in other parts of the country.

> For the fact that thousands of brave Americans make tremendous personal sacrifices to fight for our freedom and stand up for the way of life that we love.

>And for the fact that our nation affords us the freedom to worship in a manner of our own choosing without dictation by government.

We have much to be thankful for this year and we must not lose sight of that as celebrate the holiday.
