County officials count blessings

For those who serve Lawrence County reasons for being thankful come in many packages from love of family to appreciation for the country they call home.

Both Cathy Overbeck, Board of Elections director, and EMS Director Buddy Fry see their blessings in abundance.

“I’m thankful for everything, every day, for family and health,” Overbeck said.

“You don’t have enough room to list them all,” Fry said. “Living in this country. I’ve been in other countries with all that poverty. We have our freedom. My family and my job.”

Shawn Spencer, clerk at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, finds her reasons for being thankful close to home.

“What I am thankful for is what I’ve been thankful for for 25 years, my son, Patrick,” she said.

Commissioner Bill Pratt counts his blessing threefold.

“I’m thankful for good health and being in a good county and a great wife, who is a good cook,” Pratt said.

The woman who is the pulse of the county commission, Administrator Tami Meade is grateful for “the country I live in, my health, my family and my daughter, Carly Jean.”

County Clerk of Courts Mike Patterson offers a range of blessings he’s thankful for this year and every year.

“I’m thankful for salvation and my family,” he said. “And not only do will live in a great county, we live in a great country. How the Lord has blessed us with this country.”
