The holiday season is in full swing and community-minded groups across Lawrence County are making a difference and showing the compassionate spirit that is a testament to the season and the region.
During the holidays, one of the most encouraging characteristics of our community is the amount of charitable giving and selflessness that we see. It is impossible to go anywhere in Lawrence County right now without being touched by this kindness and generosity toward those in need.
School groups are taking on a variety of fundraising projects. Businesses are sponsoring angel trees and other charitable events. Churches, civic groups and community organizations are all doing their part. Many individuals are even sacrificing a little bit to make someone else’s Christmas a little brighter and more cheerful.
We should never overlook these efforts that can often be taken for granted. The needs within our community are perhaps greater than ever before, making the charitable work that much more important.
Everyone involved with work of this nature deserves to be recognized and should be proud of what they do.
That is what the Christmas season is all about.
