John DeWitt

John J. DeWitt, 89, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at his residence. The Logan, W.Va. native was born Jan. 2, 1922, the son of the late John DeWitt and Pearlie Sharp DeWitt Steed. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Berry DeWitt, who passed away Jan. 1, 1998.

Mr. DeWitt attended Coal Grove schools and was an Army WWII veteran. He was a former flue tender for the Ironton Semet-Solvay and enjoyed hunting, watching baseball, football and NASCAR. He loved spending time with his family and church family. He was a 52-year active member of the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and college trustee.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Lloyd Steed; two brothers, Paul DeWitt and Raymond Hurst; and a grandson, Michael Hunt.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Edward Hunt of Kitts Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Gloria DeWitt of Kitts Hill; granddaughter, Noel Pemberton of Ironton; grandson and his wife, Jason and Jodie Hunt of Kitts Hill; grandson and his fiancée, Mark DeWitt and Stephanie Phillips of Kitts Hill; four great grandchildren, Hunter Pemberton, Brady Pemberton, both of Ironton, and Gracie Hunt and Ellie Hunt, both of Kitts Hill.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Long and Rev. Clifford Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Phyllis Joyce

Phyllis “June” Joyce, 82, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Brian Schneider at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Huntington, W.Va. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline Ferrel

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Pauline Ferrel, 59, of Huntington, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was the wife of Randy Ferrel, who survives. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Thursday. Patricia Daniels

SCOTTOWN — Patricia A. Daniels, 71, of Scottown, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
