BIDWELL — When the Rock Hill Redmen made mistakes, they found the perfect eraser.
Rock Hill was able to overcome its mistakes and beat the River Valley Raiders 52-39 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We didn’t execute real well all the time, but we played hard to make up for our mistakes and that’s a positive,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds.
Two big erasers for the Redmen were Andy Knipp and Trey Wilds. Knipp had 16pointsand 10 rebounds while Wilds had 14 points — he drained four 3-pointers — and handed out 5 assists.
Laden Delawder added 8 points and Will McCollister had 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Drew Kidd grabbed 6 rebounds for the Redmen (3-1, 1-0).
Derek Flint scored 12 points for River Valley (1-3, 0-1).
Knipp had 6 points and Wilds 5 in the first quarter. Flint scored 5 points and Aaron Harrison hit a three-quarter shot at the buzzer to make it 16-16.
Four different players scored in the second quarter as Rock Hill took a 26-23 halftime lead.
Wilds had 6 points and Knipp 5 more in the third quarter as the Redmen went up 39-34.
Delawder scored 5 points including a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and the defense held the Raiders to just 5 points to secure the win.
“Our defense didn’t play bad. We gave up some second chance points that we have to get better at,” said coach Wilds. “We took care of the ball well in the last quarter. We were able to keep it out of their hands and then we made stops on the defensive end.”
The Redmen hit 19 of 45 shots from the floor for 42 percent including 6 of 14 from the 3-point line.
