Robert Hesse

Robert Howard Hesse, 57, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born Dec. 19, 1953, in Newburgh, N.Y., son of Frank Julius (Virginia Victoria) Hesse of Brooksville, Fla., and the late Georgetta Earl. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Browning Hesse; one son, Bryan (Deanna) Schweickart of Ashland, Ky.; two daughters, Amanda (Johnathan) Whitley of South Point and Christina Hesse of Ironton; two brothers, Frank Chester (Linda) Hesse of Clearwater, Fla. and Michael Preston (Gay) Hesse of Longwood, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Sydney and Summer Schweickart, Kaley and Alexis Cade, Jacob Whitley, Shawn, Cheyanna and Jayden Hesse; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Brother Charles Rice officiating. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Bette Whaley

Bette McKee Whaley, 88, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born June 26, 1923, in Lawrence County. She was the daughter of the late Brian Nelson McKee and Pauline (McGlothlin) McKee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Michael Whaley and a sister, Mary Margaret Cooke.

Mrs. Whaley was a 1940 graduate of Chesapeake High School in Chesapeake. She was a retired book keeper from several Huntington area businesses and she attended the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, W.Va.

She is survived by her husband Lewis F. Whaley of Ironton; one brother, Joe McKee of Lawrence County; and one sister, Dorothy Kerns of Huntington.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point, Ohio. There will be no public visitation. Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tracybrammerfh.com.

 

Dorothy Maddy

Dorothy Maddy, 87, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center, Ashland, Ky. She was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Riverbank, Calif., the daughter of the late Egidio and Alice (Sandoval) Pedranti. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Maddy; two brothers, George and Walter Pedranti; two sisters, Ethel Dahlgren and Helen Pedranti; one son in law, Steven Waller and one great granddaughter, Nicole Maddy.

Mrs. Maddy was a graduate of Marysville High School in Marysville, Calif. She retired from the GTE Phone Company as an assignment specialist and she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Sue Waller of Lexington, Ky.; one son, James (Ruth) Maddy of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, James (Christine) Maddy of Cincinnati, Ronald (Robin) Maddy of Cincinnati, Michael (Cindy) Maddy of Fort Wayne, Ind., Dr. Travis (Elaine) Waller of Sydney, Australia, and Timothy (Holly) Maddy of Cincinnati; nine great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Chris Cecil and Shelly Stone.

Funeral services will be at noon Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Maddy officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Martha Reedy

PIQUA —Martha Jan Reedy, 63, of Piqua died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born in Lawrence County on May 22, 1948 to the late Thomas and Viola (Witt) O’Leary. On Sept. 13, 1969, in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, she married Gregory A. Reedy. He survives.

Martha is also survived by two sons, Sean Reedy, Port Clinton and Kevin Reedy, Piqua; one daughter, Margaret Reedy, Cincinnati; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Janet O’Leary, Columbus and Martin and Nina O’Leary, Athens; two sisters, Mary June Lavelle and Jean Kelly, both of Ironton; and four grandchildren.

Martha graduated from St. Joseph High School. She then graduated from Huntington East Vocation Technical School, W.Va. with her LPN. Martha was an LPN at Heartland of Piqua for 30 years. She was then an LPN at Harborside, Troy for 1 ½ years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Ironton, with Rev. Fr. David Huffman as celebrant. Friends may call from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Ironton. Local arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.

Carl E. Malone, 81, of Ironton, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at a local health care facility. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.
