The television ads have a very clear message: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” That will certainly be the emphasis this weekend as we ring in the New Year and some revelers make the decision to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Law enforcement agencies across the state including the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be ramping up enforcement as they attempt to crack down on individuals driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Although law enforcement’s efforts are greatly appreciated because this helps make the roads safer for all motorists, the police cannot do it all on their own. Individuals who are celebrating the holiday must do their part by making smart decisions and by arranging for designated drivers or other forms of safe transportation. Even those who are doing the right thing can also help by encouraging friends and family to do the same.
