Patricia Mullens

SOUTH POINT — Patricia L. Dickson Mullens, 43, of South Point, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Heartland Hospice in Portsmouth.

The Knox, Ind., native was born Aug. 2, 1968, the daughter of Elizabeth Stapleton Dickson White of Ironton and the late James E. Dickson.

Patricia was a 1986 graduate of Dawson Bryant High School and Rutledge College. She was a medical assistant for Dr. Garcia and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a loving friend and father of 35 years, Jeff White and her grandparents.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Joshua Mullens of Ironton and Travis Mullens and Christi Cantrell of South Point; a grandson, Troy Cantrell; a sister and brother-in-law, Malissa and Dwain Brubaker of Coal Grove; six nieces and nephews, Michael Short Jr. of Huntington, W.Va., Natasha and Kimberly Short, Linda, Ray and Zac Brubaker all of Coal Grove; a great niece, Sophie Short and her special pet, Montana, her dog.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Pemberton officiating. Burial followed in Haverhill Cemetery. Virginia Brock

Virginia M. Brock, 84, of Ironton, died Friday Dec. 30, 2011, at the Jo-Lin Health Center.

She was born Sept. 21, 1927, a daughter of the late Luella and Miles Browning. She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Brock Sr.; a son, William Brock; and a daughter, Joan Sisler.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Brock of California and two daughters, Jane Brooks of Ironton and Mary Williams and her husband Clyde of South Point; a sister, Marjorie Collins of Ironton, and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanging Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral chapel. Joyce Miles

COLUMBUS — Joyce A. (Fisher) Miles, 85, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011.

She was born in 1926 to the late Harry and Helen Fisher.

She graduated from Ironton High School in 1944, and received a bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1951. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority.

She was preceeded in death by her sister, Jeane Fisher Morrison and brother-in-law Charles Morrison of Portsmouth, and by sister-in-law Charline Sigman Fisher of Dyersburg, Tenn.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years Harold “Hal” Miles; twin brother, John Fisher of Dyersburg, Tenn.; a daughter, Dr. Janet Miles Thompson of Akron; a son, Dr. Jeff Miles of Sacramento, Calif., and niece, Juliane Morrison McGowan of Columbus.

Her memorial celebration service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 5100 Karl Road, Columbus.

 

Matthew Allen Pike

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Matthew Allen Pike, 29, of Huntington, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. Funeral will be 11a.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be 10-11a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

Shirley Ellis

Shirley Ellis, 65, of Ironton, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ironton native was born Sept. 6, 1946, the daughter of the late William Ray and Rosalie Ruth Collins Stapleton. She is survived by her husband, Giles Lane Ellis, whom she married April 24, 1963.

She attended Rock Hill Schools and was a nurse’s assistant for Sunset Nursing Home for 20 years. She was a member of Campbell Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Elsie Matney and Wanda Saylor; four brothers, Tom Stapleton, Roy Stapleton, Ed Stapleton and Bill Stapleton; a son-in-law, Jack Willis Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters and sons-in-laws, Catherine Ann and Donald J. Hall of South Shore, Ky., Sharri Lynn and Timothy Wilson of Camden, Tenn., Terri Lynn and Carl Berry of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Erica Elaine and Herbert Wayne Iles of South Point; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lane and Carrie Ann Ellis of Coal Grove; a sister, Ruth Vanderhoof of Ironton; a brother, John Stapleton of Ironton; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Bradley and the Rev. Gene Brammer officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
