PEDRO — The state school board will consider permanently revoking the license of a Rock Hill teacher who was found to have pornography on his school computers.

In April the teacher resigned from the Rock Hill district after the district and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation about the teacher and material on his computers.

At that time Rock Hill Superintendent Wes Hairston asked the sheriff’s office to obtain the teacher’s computers, including a laptop, to have them analyzed by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

“Basically, it is to see if there were any illegal images that had been downloaded on that computer,” Sheriff Jeff Lawless said at the time. “With legal pornography, there may be an issue as far as doing so at the place of work. But child pornography is definitely illegal. You can’t have nude photos of children or children engaged in sexual acts.”

That report from BCI&I showed that there was adult pornography on the computers, but not images of children in sexual situations.

That meant no criminal charges were filed by the county prosecutor. Since there were no criminal charges, the teacher’s name was not published in The Tribune.

On Tuesday the state board of education will consider a resolution to accept the voluntary surrender and to enter an order to permanently revoke the five-year professional education of the handicapped teaching license and five-year professional elementary teaching license of the teacher.
