SOUTH POINT — Maybe coach Chris Barnes needs to fill the South Point team cooler with 5-Hour Energy drinks.

Feeling the effects of five games in a two-week span, the weary Pointers needed a fourth quarter rally to beat the River Valley Raiders 55-49 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“They’re trying their hardest, but right now we don’t have any legs. We’ve had a lot of games and a few overtimes in the mix, so we’re just tired,” said Barnes.

Brandon Barnes scored 25 points to lead the Pointers (6-5, 2-3). Austin Jeffreys scored 14 points, Kurt Adams had 8 points and Audric Harlow grabbed 7 rebounds.

Derek Flint had 16 points to lead River Valley (1-9, 0-5).

Brandon Barnes scored 11 points in the first half and the teams were tied at 19.

The Raiders took a 30-27 lead after three quarters before Barnes had 9 points and Jeffreys 8 as the Pointers outscored River Valley 28-19 in the fourth quarter.

Adams also hit a pair of 3-pointers in the comeback.

“We got our second wind and finally woke up in the fourth quarter,” said coach Barnes. “Harlow did a great job. He came off the bench and gave us some rebounding. Kurt Adams hit two big 3s and that helped open things up.”
