HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — If your team shoots 3-pointers, avoid the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

After limiting River Valley to just one 3-pointer on Thursday, the Lady Panthers did not allow Wayne to hit any long-range shot as Chesapeake rolled past the Lady Pioneers 59-38 on Friday in the Huntington St. Joe Lady Irish Shootout.

“That’s the second night in a row we were able to hold a 3-point shooting team down,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“We didn’t help as well on some of their drives, but we had a pretty good defensive effort again.”

Amanda Ruffner had 27 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots while Jordan Porter scored 21 points to lead the Lady Panthers (12-5). Sydnee Hall had 5 assists and Jackie Nelson 4.

“Ruffner and Porter both pretty much had their way,” said Ball. “We were able to pressure them and wear them down.”

Ruffner scored 9 points in the first quarter as Chesapeake built a 15-4 lead. Porter scored 7 more points in the second quarter and it was 27-17 at the half.

Ruffner got 10 more points in the third quarter and the lead grew to 44-26. Porter finished off the Lady Pioneers with 9 points in the fourth quarter.

Sam Queen scored 12 points for Wayne.
