WELLSTON — It felt more like a M*A*S*H ward than a basketball game.

The Rock Hill Redwomen had three starters playing despite being sick and the result was a 63-39 loss to the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets on Monday.

“We’ve been battling sickness for the last couple of weeks. It’s someone different each time. Our girls battled through it, but Wellston just hit their shots,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter.

Brook Knipp scored 13 points and Chelsea Harper hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for the Redwomen (6-11). Tommi Butler grabbed 11 rebounds.

Wellston (10-6) had four players in double figures. Jordan Davis scored 14, Taelor Folden and Shanea Long 13 each and Chelsea McManaway 12.

Folden scored 7 points in the first quarter as Wellston raced to a 27-9 lead.

Harper hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter as Rock Hill got within 35-24 at the break.

Knipp had 7 points for Rock Hill in the third quarter but McManaway scored 8 for Wellston as the lead went to 49-35.

Wellston held Rock Hill to just 4 points in the fourth quarter.

Rock Hill visits Chesapeake on Thursday.
