Marcella Scherer
Marcella E. Scherer, 94, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born May 20, 1917, the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Nelson Orthmeyer. She was formerly married for 38 years to the late Wilfred Scherer.
Marcella attended Ironton City Schools and was a former seamstress for the Leader Dress Shop. She was also a member of Saint Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Ironton. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and enjoyed playing bridge with her good friends and was a member of the bridge club for 49 years. Marcella had a good sense of humor and was a loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
In addition to her parents and former husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Jim Orthmeyer; and two sisters, Ruth Morgan and Betty Orthmeyer.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tom Miller of Lexington, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Betty Scherer of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, James and Anita Scherer of Kitts Hill; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren
Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Tuesday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home from 10 until 11:45 a.m. with a rosary service at 10 a.m. The family requests donations be made to Community Hospice 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101. Elmer Robinson
Elmer Ray Robinson, 91, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at a local health care facility. The Kingston, Tenn., native was born March 25, 1920, the son of the late George and Melissa Owens Robinson. He was the widower of Erma Opal Arrington Robinson.
Elmer attended Waterloo Schools, was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater service medal. He was a retired grinder for the Dayton Malleable Iron Co. retiring in 1983 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and a life member of the VFW Post 8850.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles and Gerald Robinson; five sisters, Orba Bolin, Bernice Frazier, Ruby Manshine, Opal Herrell and Thelma Walhert; and a son-in-law, Larry Bryson.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bob Clement of Kitts Hill; daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Lee Mays of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Annette Robinson of Ironton; daughter, Kay Bryson of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rhonda Robinson of Ironton; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Slabfork Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. Friends may call Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Brandon Koster, Bryson Patton, Mathew McFann, William Rowe, Brandon McFann, Levi Stewart and Tyler Robinson. Helen Louise Baldridge-Pemberton, 78, of Flatwoods, died Saturday morning Feb. 18, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
