Harold Griffith

Harold Norris Griffith, 83, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Morgan County, Ky., to the late Joseph Edward Griffith and Verna Ellen Hamilton. He was the general manager for Boyd County Ford in Ashland for the past 20 years. Prior to that he was owner of Griffth-Moore Motor Co. in Ashland and Howes-Griffith Chrysler-Plymouth.

He was a graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1946. He was a radio broadcaster and a sports writer for the Boonville Enquirer in Boonville, Ind., from 1950-1954. He also worked as a sports writer for the Louisville Courier Journal from 1955-1965. He began his career in the automobile industry with Wurts Motor Sales in Ashland 1956-1959 until starting Howes-Griffith-Moore Motors which he owned and ran until 1990. He as past vice president and president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association. He was also a member of Ashland Elks 350, Bellefonte Country Club, a Kentucky colonel, an avid golfer and a UK fan. He was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 y ears, Ruth Rice Griffith; a son, Jerry Dean; and four brothers, Edward Thomas Griffith, Paul Milton Griffith, Paul Erwin Hitchcock and Charles Ishmael Hitchcock; and his special friend, Sue Tutwiler.

Surviving are a son, Terry (Jennifer) Griffith; three daughters, Cindy (Kelly Cantrell) Griffith, Patti (Richard) May, all of Ashland, Ky., and Lori (Rich) Donohue of Ironton and two sisters, Betty Jo Price of Orlando, Fla, and Edith Faye Griffith. Also surviving are grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Perkins, Courtney May, Caitlyn, Chris and Cameron Donohue, Kristina Griffith, Kim, Ben and Sean Joiner; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Libby Perkins and Rylee and Alex Joiner.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Steen Funeral Home at Center Avenue. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday or an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.

 

David Christian

David Richard Christian, 56, of Pedro, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 10, 1956, the son of the late Roscoe and Arzena Caper Christian. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Waller Christian.

Mr. Christian was a graduate of Symmes Valley High School and a former laborer for Asco Home Improvement. He attended Rose of Sharon Independent Baptist Church in Proctorville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Cloyd, Garland and McKinley Lee Christian.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David C. Christian of Willow Wood; four grandchildren, Halie, Daylan, Dillon and Ethan Christian, all of Willow Wood; three sisters, Evelyn Giles of Willow Wood, Betty Caudill of South Carolina and Nancy Verlardocchia of Ironton; and two brothers, Dennis Christian of South Point and Jerry Christian of Scottown.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Gordon Simpson officiating. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Simon Soulanille

Simon Soulanille, 83, of Ironton, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Betty. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

 

Robert Traylor

Robert Traylor, 84, of Proctorville, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Hospice of Huntington. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
