James Smith

James T. Smith Jr., 71, of Chesapeake, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 1, 2012, from Sunset Nursing Center.

He was born July 24, 1940, in Huntington, W.Va. He was the son of the late James T. Smith and Helen Keeney Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Allen Smith; one sister, Ruth Ann Smith; and one brother-in-law, Robert Bartley.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Tackett Smith; one daughter-in-law, Mary Smith of Sheridan, Wyo.; one son, David Aaron Smith and his wife, Tammy of Chesapeake; two daughters, Kelly Smith Brock and her husband, Perry of South Point and Geana Pike Pannell and her husband, John of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren, Jamie Huffman Jones, Jordan, Jamie, Jonathan, and Joshua Smith, Tiffany, Zachary, Levi, Nathan, and Hunter Smith, Sarah (Michael) Wright and Drew Brock, and Caitlyn and Lauren Pannell; three great grandsons, Ethan Smith, and Adam and Dylan Jones; four siblings, Sharon Lang and her husband, Dick of Chesapeake, Kate Bartley of Columbus, John Smith and his wife, Nancy of Chesapeake, and Patty Workman and her husband, Mark of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a retired operator with Dow Chemical, a member of Big Branch Church, and a member of Proctorville Masonic Lodge #550. He was also a former president of Lawrence County Township Association and a former Union Township Trustee.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, with Pastor David Viars officiating and being assisted by Michael Wright and John Paul Patterson. Burial will follow in Getaway Cemetery, Getaway. Friends may call from 6 – 9 p.m. today at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Albert Avery

Albert Eugene “Gene” Avery Sr., 72, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday April 3, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ironton native was born July 7, 1939, the son of the late Albert Brown Avery and Gladys Pennington Avery.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stanley Avery.

Gene was a 1958 graduate of Rock Hill High School and was a self-employed auto body repairman. He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Avery; a sister, Theresa Avery; and a grandson, Weston Mineer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Theresa and Jim Walsh of Mt. Gilead, Kimberly Riffe of Marion, Texas and Debra and Tim Mays of Ironton; a son, Albert E. Avery, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Jack Delong, Sandy and Danny McKnight, Pam and Ted Sprouse, Debbie and Don Barker, and Lana and Mike Markel all of Ironton and Patsy and Gene Dye of Racine, Wis.; a brother, Larry Avery of Ironton; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; eight stepchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; 12 step grandchildren; and one step great grandchild.

There will be a memorial service 6 p.m. Friday at Tri-State Worship Center South Point with Bishop Terry Wagner officiating. Jean Lovejoy

Jean Lovejoy, 86, of Ironton, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Beverly Rye

Beverly Helen Rye, 66, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, April 2, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

 

Sarah Jane Bockway

Sarah Jane Bockway, 84, of Chesapeake, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, W.Va. Leslie McClure

Leslie James McClure, 55, of Ironton, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Our Lady Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Ky. Visitation is at Full Gospel Assembly 2101 10th Ave., Huntington, W.Va., from noon to 1 p.m., with service to be followed at the church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.
