PEDRO — Classic pitcher’s duels are at their best when you win.

Things turned out best for the Rock Hill Redmen as Johnathan Schob and Drew Kidd combined to out-duel the Coal Grove Hornets Jacob Pierce in a 1-0 win on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Each team had just three hits.

“We had people on, we just couldn’t score. We just didn’t put the ball in play,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“All the pitchers did a good job. It was a well-played game defensively. Both teams made plays.”

Schob fanned five, walked two and gave up two hits. Kidd struck out six and allowed one hit.

Pierce struck out seven, walked three and hit a batter in going the distance for Coal Grove (2-5, 1-2).

Rock Hill scored the game’s only run in the second inning.

Evan Morris had a leadoff single, Jonah Cox walked and Laden Delawder sacrificed the runners up a base.

Kidd hit into a fielder’s choice with Morris being thrown out at home. But Jared Bruce delivered a two-out single to left field scoring Cox.

Rock Hill (4-3, 3-0) visits Fairland on Monday in a showdown for first place in the OVC.
