Redwomen rack up 3 more victories

PEDRO — It was all about the offense.
Rock Hill blanked the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 9-0 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game, then got their offense in high gear as they swept the South Webster Lady Jeeps 10-1 and 11-1 on Saturday.
“We didn’t hit as well on Friday, but we hit well on Saturday and we also hit a lot of balls hard right at them,” said Redwomen coach Mary Harper. “I was just glad we hit the ball better.”
Sami Nixon gave up five hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter to get the win against Coal Grove. Kelci Groves fanned four and walked none in taking the loss.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Rock Hill scored three runs.
Morgan Schug singled and Kenzi Martin reached on an error. Lindy Simpson singled to load the bases and Kaelynn Ellis hit a sacrifice fly. A run scored on a wild pitch and Morgan Damron singled in a run.
The Redwomen scored six runs in the sixth.
Brooke Hanshaw was hit by a pitch and Schug and Martin singled for a run. Simpson reached on a fielder’s choice, Brooke Eastham was safe on an error and Ellis drilled a two-run double.
After a wild pitch Damron had an RBI double, stole third and BreeAnna Depriest was safe on an error as a run score.
In Saturday’s first game, Damron went 3-4 while Chelsea Harper and Eastham doubled in the 10-1 win.
Harper had a double and Hanshaw and Schug RBI singles in a three-run first inning.
Martin walked, stole second and third and scored on Ellis’ ground ball in the fourth.
Eastham had a three-run triple and Depriest a two-run singled in a six-run sixth ining.
Schug got the win in the nightcap and Hanshaw went 4-4 and Damron 3-4 to lead a 13-hit assault.
Rock Hill scored nine runs in the second as Brooklyn Kingery had a sacrifice fly and Eastham, Damron, Harper, Hanshaw, Martin and Ellis all had RBI singles.
Damron singled and scored on a hit by Hanshaw in the fifth and Damron’s RBI singled in the sixth ended the game as Ellis scored after being hit by a pitch and moving up on a pair of groundouts.
