SP girls top Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE — Just when things were looking up, they fell down hard.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers got within a run, then gave up nine unearned runs in one inning as they lost 19-4 in five innings to the South Point Lady Pointers on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Lady Pointers led 5-0 in the second inning but Chesapeake closed to within 5-4 in the bottom of the inning.

South Point broke the game open with nine runs in the third inning.

With two outs, the Lady Pointers got two walks and a drop fly ball to trigger the rally. The Lady Pointers used six walks and two errors to help score the nine unearned runs.

South Point had 12 hits with Andrea Kleinman and Hannah Carey going 2-2, Brianna Whaley and Morgan Wells 2-3 and Halie Powell 2-4 with a double.

Anna Mayo was 2-2 and Sarah Rice 2-3 to lead the Lady Panthers.
