Toni Black

Toni Nichole Black 23, of Chesapeake, lost her courageous battle on this earth and won her reward in Heaven on Monday, April 9, 2012. Toni’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Toni was born Oct. 26, 1988, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Kevin E. and Tammy Estep Black. She was a graduate of Chesapeake High School, where she was a cheerleader.

She received her associate degree from Huntington Junior College of Business and worked as a medical assistant with Ebenezer Medical Outreach. She was also a member of Defender United Methodist Church. Toni was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Patricia Ann Estep; and her great grandparents, Frank Estep, Jim and Betty Jane Bays and Leslie Mullins.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Brett Black; her boyfriend, Cody Methax; her maternal grandfather, Howard F. “Bob” Estep of Proctorville; her paternal grandparents, Judy and Don Blankenship of Proctorville; and Everett and Barbara Black of Getaway; her great grandmothers, Jackie Estep, Nellie Mullins, and Marcella Black; her aunts and uncles, Patrick “Boo” Estep, Bobbie “Sis” and Eric “Uncle E” Stymiest, Janie “Nanie” and Jimmy Dudding, Lisa Browning, Scott Blankenship, and Michael Black; her cousins, Tressa Stymiest, and Erica Stymiest and Alex Glover along with their son, Adrian; and numerous extended family.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake. The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to Fletcher’s Mining Company, Jill and Chad Greenhill, Dairy Bell, Great American Cookie, the Frye Family, Ebenezer Medical Outreach, Perry and Kelly Brock, the Brumfields, the Toni Black Boulevard neighbors, Team Toni, and anyone who prayed and supported Toni through her challenge.

Ronald Gaffney

Ronald Lee Gaffney, 71 of Ironton, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at his home with his wife at his side. He was born Aug. 29, 1940, a son of the late Frances Neal and the late Claude Gaffney. He was a CPA, and a former deputy for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. He was of the Baptist faith, attending the God’s Tabernacle in Raceland, Ky.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife at home, Sharon Kaye (Sherry Brown) Gaffney; three sons, Scott (Lizz) Gaffney of Columbus, Ronald (Cami) Gaffney II of Ironton, and Mark (Christi) Gaffney of Franklin Furnace; two daughters, Christy (Danny) Roberts and Tina (Chris) Runyon both of South Point; a brother, Jim Gaffney of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; his niece, Brenda Van Dyke and two nephews, Mike and Jimmy Gaffney. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at

the Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Johnson officiating and with special singing by Ronald’s friends.

In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated

after services. A graveside service with full military honors provided by the West Virginia National Guard and Kenova Post 93 will be noon Monday in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup, Ky. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Monday for the graveside service.

Friends may pay their respects to Ronald and the family from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Friends may share memories and condolences with the family on the facebook page of Brown Funeral Chapel. Ronald had chosen Brown Funeral Chapel before he started his journey home.

 

Rodney Straight

Rodney Straight, 65, of South Point, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Lawrence County to the late Jason J. and Opal B. Parsons Straight.

He worked as a hairdresser for Regis Hair Salon in Ashland Ky. He was a graduate of the Tucson Ariz., School for the Deaf and Blind. He was a student at Rio Grande College and Ohio University.

He is survived by one brother Roger K. Straight and Dorothy of Wurtland Ky.; nephews and nieces include Roger K. Straight Jr., Ryan Straight, Benjamin Twiss, Nicholas Twiss, Charlene D. Twiss and Mary Linn Straight. Funeral will be Friday at noon at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Carl Graham officiating. Visitation will be Friday morning 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

 

Mark Pruitt

Mark Pruitt, 28, of Ironton died on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at University of Kentucky Medical Center. Arrangements are pending O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.

 

Carolyn Bond

Feb. 11, 1938-April 10, 2012

 

Carolyn Ruth Bond, 74, of Ironton, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center after a short illness. The Beckley, W.Va., native was born Feb. 11, 1938, the daughter of the late Orval and Jettie Hankins. Mrs Bond was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Boo” Bond, whom she married in 1955. Mrs. Bond attended Pedro schools and was a homemaker and she was of the Apostolic faith.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Orval Bond and a daughter Patricia Lynn Bond, four sisters, Barbara Jenkins, Lucille Kelley, Lorraine Fields and June Vance and two brothers, Joe Hankins and Orval “Buddy” Hankins. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Bond Markel, and a son, Kenneth Dale Bond, both of Ironton; and two granddaughters, Tori Jo and Patti Markel, and a brother, Bill Hankins. She will be sadly missed by a special friend Betty Stephenson and a special home health aide, Angela Trotter. She will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with  Bill Hankins and an audio of Taylor Jenkins officiating. Bonnie Mollett

Bonnie Jean Swann Mollett, 49, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at her residence. The Ironton native was born Nov. 8, 1962, the daughter of Cecil Swann and the late Maryline Murnahan Swann. She is survived by her husband, Danny Mollett.

Bonnie attended Rock Hill High School and was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Danny Mollett Jr. a sister and brother-in-law: Juanita and Edward Mollett; and niece: Christina Mollett.

In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law: Angel Bayes and her fiancé, Jeffery Stapleton, Robin and Joseph Sparks and Lori Mollett, all of Franklin Furnace; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Mollett of Wheelersburg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lela and Dannie Stapleton and Marcella and Edgar Noe, all of Ironton; father-in-law, Parker Mollett of Wheelersburg; mother-in-law, Garnett Carver of Wheelersburg; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Betty Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Mollett family cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

William Friley

William Edward Friley, Sr., 86, of Wurtland, Ky., died Tuesday, April 10, 2012.

There will be a private graveside service with military honors by the VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, at the family’s convenience. There will be no visitation.
