Redwomen blank Lady Panthers in OVC matchup

CHESAPEAKE — The offense started late, but Sami Nixon was ready from the start.

Nixon threw a one-hitter and the Rock Hill Redwomen finally got their offense going in a 10-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.

“We just didn’t get it going right away,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper. “We played well and Sami pitched a nice game.”

Rock Hill (11-5, 5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Brooke Hanshaw singled, Kenzi Martin was hit by a pitch, Kaelynn Ellis reached on an error and Brooke Eastham was hit by a pitch.

The scored remained the same until Rock Hill got five runs in the fourth inning.

Martin doubled, Ellis walked and they moved up on a wild pitch.

Eastham singled in a run, Morgan Damron had a two-run single, BreeAnna Depriest walked, Chelsea Harper singled in a run and a wild pitch scored another run.

The Redwomen got four runs in the fifth inning.

Morgan Schug and Ellis were hit by pitches, Eastham walked, Darmon had a two-run single, Depriest singled in a run and an error scored the final run.

Damron was 2-4 as Rock Hill had seven hits. Caitlin Heffner singled for Chesapeake’s lone hit.

Rock Hill hosts River Valley on Wednesday.
